Kupes story
History tells us that kupe was a brave, strong and daring explorer. He was from Hawaiki and his family included a wife called Hi te Aparangi and 2 daughters Matiu and Makaro. He sailed in a waka from Hawaiki and fought a giant wheke (octopus) on his way to NZ. He was very clever because he threw calabashes, hollowed out fruit that held water or food, in the sea that tricked the wheke into thinking people were in the water. Once it was distracted, Kupe bravely jumped into the water and knocked him on the head, killing it.
He can be remembered as a great leader because because he’s brave, strong and fierce.
I think he wasn’t a good person because he's cruel and he kills people for his own selfish reasons.
